Enjoy a break close to nature – or work from home – at our Nordic-inspired lake bungalow in upstate New York

The Western Catskills area offers a wide range of activities, including hiking, apple picking, tubing, rafting, canoeing, boating, fishing, cycling, ziplining, swimming, horseback riding, bird watching, snow tubing, and skiing/snowboarding. We recommend visits to picturesque river towns Narrowsburg and Callicoon and will share a guide to the area’s best restaurants, shops, antique stores, harvest festivals, holiday markets, farms, and farmers markets.

The cottage is also a short drive from Bethel Woods Center for the Arts, the Museum at Bethel Woods, the original Woodstock site, Lake Superior State Park, Forestburgh Playhouse, Kadampa Meditation Center New York, Catskill Distilling Company, Monticello Casino and Raceway, Monticello Motor Club Off-Road Adventure, and much more.

The space

This is the most adorable 2 BR/1 BA bungalow from the 40s, updated with a brand new kitchen and bathroom. The house is as cozy as it is functional. The deck faces a wooded double-lot backyard.

***Please note that the upstairs bedroom (with a king bed), as well as the shower booth have low ceilings and people over 6 foot tall may find these spaces uncomfortable. ***

The newly remodeled kitchen features a gas stove and compact dishwasher. The kitchen is stocked with everything you need to make a meal including a Moccamaster coffee maker, French press, microwave, toaster, and Nutri Ninja blender. We offer our guests coffee, tea and basic spices. The dining table comfortably seats 6 people.

Our sofa is super comfy – perfect for cozy movie nights. The smart TV is logged in to Netflix and Hulu but you can of course log in to your own streaming service as well. If you want to play content from another device we have HDMI cables.

The bedrooms feature a king (primary) and queen bed respectively, both with Allswell ‘s highly rated hybrid mattress (memory foam and innerspring coils), as well as laptop-friendly workspaces.

The roomy bathroom features a brand new shower, and the window faces the backyard. It has been remodeled for a thoroughly modern aesthetic.

The deck faces the backyard and a pretty wooded area. It features a gas BBQ, sofa, two lounge chairs, and a dining table. This is the perfect spot to enjoy your meals, sip your coffee or cocktail, read a book, relax, or watch the many birds and deer that frequent the area. We have string lights in the trees to enhance the atmosphere even more on those warm summer nights.

Just off the deck, we have a fire pit with four comfy Adirondack chairs.

We have a compact stackable washer and dryer in the kitchen.

The cottage is work-from-home friendly with fast Wi-Fi (200 MBIT), desks in both bedrooms (one can be adjusted if you prefer to stand), and a printer.

Wi-Fi is fast (200 Mbps) and reliable, and cell service is great – Verizon and AT&T have excellent coverage. We do not know if other networks/operators have the same great service, but if not, we suggest activating wi-fi calling on your phone.

We have a private well and the water is safe to drink and tastes great. It is tested regularly.

Please note that we have neighbors and their houses are visible from the bungalow.

We provide our guests with a canoe (which sits right by the lake), two inflatable stand-up paddleboards, as well as inner tubes for four people.

During the summer, we have ACs installed in the two bedrooms, but not in the kitchen and living/dining room. These rooms, however, stay fairly cool, and windows and doors can be opened (with screens) for natural cross ventilation. We also provide fans.
